Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC. (March 27, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers earn two crucial points in Fayetteville as they defeat the FireAntz with a final score of 3-1 on Friday night.

With the 2015 SPHL playoffs beginning next week, a lot was on the line heading into this weekend's games as teams battle for positioning in the standings. The top three teams earn home ice advantage and going into tonight's game Pensacola was ranked 4th, tied in points with the RiverKings who have the tie-breaker over the Ice Flyers and sit in third.

Following a scoreless first, late in the second period a little give-and-go action between Keegan Flaherty and Nick McParland lead to a beautiful feed from Flaherty on the side of the net to McParland in the slot who ripped a shot behind Kevin Murdock to put the Ice Flyers up 1-0.

Just over five minutes into the third, on the attack in the Ice Flyers' zone, Chad Hohmann found Derek Elliot between the circles who spun around to his backhand and managed to find the back of the net through Max Strang to even the game.

With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, a 2-on-1 developed for Pensacola that turned into an unassisted goal by Adam Pawlick who beat Murdock high, glove side with a wrist shot to retake the lead.

Nearing the end of the third, the Ice Flyers managed one final goal as Brett Lutes from below the goal line found McParland on the outside who sniped a slap shot in the net for his second of the game and Pensacola would go on to defeat Fayetteville with a final score of 3-1.

With the win, Pensacola now holds a record of 31-18-6 for 68 points and still remain tied with the RiverKings who also took two points in their 8-3 win over Peoria. For the Ice Flyers to earn home ice in the first round they must come out of tomorrow night with more points in the standings than Mississippi.

Pensacola and Fayeteville meet again for the final night of the regular season tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum. Watch live at Beef O Brady's in downtown Pensacola and 9 Mile Road or online at SPHLLive.com.
