Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Pensacola Ice Flyers beat the Huntsville Havoc in their last regular season game in The Hangar on Thursday night. "It's a great way to end the regular season. The guys battled throughout the match after being down 2-0 early . I feel that as a team, we are heading into the playoffs with confidence," commented Head Coach Todd Gordon.
Though the Ice Flyers were down early in the first period after two goals from Huntsville's forward Kevin Cooper and right wing Kyle Laughlin, Pensacola's Kyle Dorowicz answered the call getting the Ice Flyers on the scoreboard with just over one minute remaining in the first period.
Former Ice Flyer, Chris Bratina, came out fast in the second managing to put one through the pipes only 3 minutes in. The Havoc would find this to be their only goal after the first period as the Ice Flyers found their groove and set to wreck havoc on Huntsville. Pensacola fired off a string of 5 unanswered goals with Chris Wilson, Brett Liscomb, Tanner Shultz, Tyler Lyon and Tyler Barr all finding the back of the net. The game was, as always, hard hitting and tough. The teams racked up a total of 56 penalty minutes on 28 offenses. "It's always a little chippy around this time of the year. Every team is trying to gear up for playoffs and they are playing some of their best hockey . but if we keep putting the puck where it's supposed to be, like we did tonight, we can run with any team in this league," Assistant Captain Tyler Barr stated after the game.
The Ice Flyers hit the road the rest of the weekend; first to Huntsville to face off against the Havoc for the third time in two weeks, then to Mississippi to play the Surge on Saturday.
