Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - With a convincing 7-2 victory for the Pensacola Ice Flyers over the Mississippi RiverKings Tuesday night, their second home win in three games, and Fayetteville's Tuesday night win, it sets up a battle for first place this weekend when Pensacola travels to Fayetteville.
The Ice Flyers have the best road record in the league, however they have been coming up short. But after Tuesday night's dominant performance over the RiverKings on home ice, the Ice Flyers are beginning to build some momentum at home.
Pensacola had six different goal scorers and 12 out of 15 skaters with points in the win. The first period, Ice Flyers received goals from Aaron Schmit, Mike MacIntyre, and Leo Thomas. Todd Hosmer added a goal for the RiverKings in the first.
The Ice Flyers went right back to work in the second. Tyler Soehner scored twice, while Patrick Knowlton and John Dunbar added one each to end the second period 7-1 for Pensacola.
Hosmer added a shorthanded goal in the third period to make it 7-2, which is how the game would end.
Pensacola outshot Mississippi 47 to 23 and was 2 for 6 on the power play. Mississippi went 0 for 3 with the man advantage.
The RiverKings play Knoxville and Huntsville on the road this Friday and Saturday before returning home on Sunday to face Huntsville again. The Ice Flyers travel to Fayetteville, NC. to face the FireAntz in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday that will be for first place in the SPHL.
