Colorado Crush News Release
Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice of United Indoor Football (UIF) fell 42-33 to the Billings Outlaws (2-4) Friday night in Billings; a team Colorado previously beat 26-25 in their inaugural season opener on Mar. 23. The Ice (4-4) remains second in the Western Conference, behind the 7-0 Sioux Falls Storm.
The Ice were the first team to score when quarterback Matt Gutierrez connected with Tim Pope for the first of Pope's two touchdowns for the night. A missed extra point attempt by kicker Deric Yaussi and a 23-yard score from Chris Dixon to Anthony Candler gave Billings a one point lead at the end of the first.
Dixon threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Robert Reed to open the second quarter. Ice running back Eugene Reed, returning from injury, followed with a two-yard run. Both teams would add a field goal, but Colorado would get another touchdown; this time a one-yard scramble from Ryan Drinkwater to take a 23-16 halftime lead.
The Outlaws dominated the second half, with three receiving touchdowns in the third quarter and one rushing in the fourth. Colorado was able to add one final touchdown on a two-yard catch by Pope and added a field goal late in the third.
Gutierrez started the game for injured Ryan Clement and connected on 21 of 33 attempts for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Billings' defense held the Ice to just 65 rushing yards, the team high of 26 coming from Gutierrez. Pope led the receiving unit with nine catches for 64 yards and two scores while Ryan Palmer powered the defense with a team high 5.5 total tackles.
Colorado returns home on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. match-up against the Sioux City Bandits at the Budweiser Events Center. The game's theme will be "Military Night."
