The Sioux Falls Storm (9-0) continued their 28-game win streak and defeated the Colorado Ice (5-5) to hand them their second home loss of their inaugural season Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo. by a 51-17 margin.
Sioux Falls started the scoring at 6:10 in the first on a 10-yard pass from Terrance Bryant to James Terry. They added another when Marques Smith ran it in from 11 yards out. Ice quarterback Matt Gutierrez connected with wide receiver Tim Pope for a 21-yard touchdown pass.
Bryant hit Leon Hall Jr. for another score before wide receiver Ed Renteria caught a 38 yard pass to come within six points. The Storm added three with a field goal kick form Adam Hicks to make it 23-14 at halftime. Renteria led the receiving in the first half with 45 yards and a score while running back Eugene Reed tallied 42 yards on the ground.
Sioux Falls dominated the second half, putting up 28 points in the second half. They were the first to score on a 30-yard pass to Hall to make the score 29-14 but the Ice answered with a field goal from Deric Yaussi. Sioux Falls scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter on a Marques Smith rush and put up seven more when Terry caught a five yard pass from Bryant. They scored their final touchdown with 1:34 left in the game on a 33-yard catch by Terry to make the score 51-17.
Bryant was 14 of 22 for 207 yards and five touchdowns. Gutierrez was 13 of 27 for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Reed finished with 66 yards while Smith totaled 80. James Terry led the Storm with 78 yards and three touchdowns.
Colorado will get another bye week before they head on a three-game road trip, beginning in Billings on June 17 for a 4 p.m. match up with the Outlaws. June 23 and June 30 they will face Bloomington and Sioux Falls, respectively. Colorado Second in League Community Service Hours
The Colorado Ice are sitting in second place in the United Indoor Football Association's Extra Points program with a cumulative 188.5 hours after adding 87.5 in May. The Ice trail the Evansville BlueCats who have tallied over 242 total hours to push the League total to an astonishing 1,035.75 total hours.
Ice football players put in hours at Milliken and Letford Elementary Schools for their career days and at Kids Day America. They also spent time at the Colorado Youth Outdoors Budweiser Business Men Shootout and helped raise money for the Hope Lives! Breast Cancer Support Center during their Pink Boa 5K Run/Walk.
Players, cheerleaders, ball babes and staff from the Colorado Ice have several events planned for June, participating in two charity car washes, speaking to juvenile delinquents and appearing at the Colorado Special Olympics Torch Run. The Ice are on a bye week and will return to action when they travel to Billings to face the Outlaws on June 17 for a 4 p.m. kickoff. They will play Bloomington and Sioux Falls on the road before returning home to host the Sioux City Bandits on July 7 and the Omaha Beef on July 14 at Budweiser Events Center to close the regular season.
Fans to Vote for UIF All-Stars
United Indoor Football (UIF) fans will be part of the voting process for the UIF's All-Star Classic. Along with league coaches and media representatives, fans will be choosing the top players to head to the All-Star Classic game at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, IL, 7:05 p.m., August 18th as the Western Conference faces the Eastern Conference.
UIF Commissioner & Executive Director, Dakota Crow says it's important the fans are involved in the all-star voting. "It's their chance to have their voice heard for their favorite players and coaches throughout the league," Crow said.
Fans may vote by clicking the "All-Star Classic Voting" button on the league's website www.unitedindoorfootball.com. They will be directed to the UIF Newsletter signup page. Everyone that receives the newsletter will be eligible to vote. There's no charge to receive the weekly newsletter and All-Star Classic ballots will be e-mailed the first week of July.
Crow says fan loyalty in the UIF is unmatched. "We consider ourselves the premier indoor football league with the premier indoor football fans."
The All-Star Classic will include several festivities for fans and players August 16th through the 18th in Bloomington. Details on other events will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
