Rock River Raptors News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rock River Raptors of the United Indoor Football (UIF) League have announced today the signing of three new defensive players, DB Sylvester McNutt, DB Chris Smith and DE Fernandez Shaw.
Rock River has had many starters fall victim to the injury bug this season. Head Coach Rik Richards and the rest of the coaching staff have been trying hard to find the right players that are capable of winning it all in 2007, but the task is difficult when so many Raptors are watching from the sidelines.
Shaw is a seasoned veteran who is in his third season with the Raptors, playing with the team even during the Tennessee Valley days. In the UIF's inaugural season of 2005, Shaw was named to the All-UIF Second Team and in 2006 was named to the All-UIF First Team. In 2006, Shaw was ranked 2nd overall in sacks with 13.5, averaging nearly one per game.
McNutt was able to get some experience at the running back position in high school before moving on to spend two years at Northern Illinois University as a defensive back.
Smith played his college ball at Southeastern Louisiana University and has even spent time with the Lubbock Renagades of af2, recording 10.5 tackles, a pass breakup and an interception.
