Ice Dogs Unleash New Generation

June 23, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - After weeks of rumors and speculation surrounding the future of the Ice Dogs, the team has been sold to a group of investors. The sale ends the 10 year regime for Barry and Margaret Kemp and ushers in a new era for the longest running professional sports team in Long Beach.

The ECHL Board of Governors voted unanimously in favor of the ownership transfer last week at their annual meeting held in Las Vegas. The sale has now been completed, though terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The new group, operating under the name of Power Play Entertainment LLC, consists of Chicago businessman Theodore Foxman, Los Angeles based attorney Steven Bash, and Los Angeles physician Dr. Isaac Bash. Owner Steven Bash will assume control of the day-to-day operations for the team.

"We are very proud of the opportunity to continue the Ice Dogs tradition in the Long Beach market and to be a part of the ECHL's growth throughout North America," announced Steven Bash. "We look forward to giving our community fun, creative, and exciting forms of sports and entertainment both on and off the ice."

"It became very clear that there was tremendous opportunity for a successful family-centric venture once I visited the city of Long Beach," commented Ted Foxman. "I look forward to the team playing a vital role in the community for many years to come, and I am glad I can be a part of a city like Long Beach."

The Kemps, who purchased the Ice Dogs back in December of 1995, leave the team after seeing them through three leagues during their tenure as owners.

"Having owned the Ice Dogs for over a decade, we naturally felt proprietary and would never have sold the team if we didn't believe that the group purchasing it was the right group for our fans, for the city, for our staff, and for the league", said Barry Kemp. "We have every confidence that Power Play will take the Ice Dogs to the next level and look forward to supporting them in that endeavor."

With a new generation of Ice Dogs hockey on the horizon, new season ticket plans and mini plans will be available starting next week. For more information, contact the Ice Dogs office at (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
