Ice Bears' Rookies Shine in Exhibition

Knoxville, TN - Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 5 -2 in Knoxville's only home exhibition game of the season.

The Ice Bears wasted no time exciting a preseason crowd of 2,325 when forward Michael Rey scored at 1:15 of the first period, veteran David Segal and rookie Christian Weidauer assisted on the first marker.

Fayetteville pugilist Tyler Sheldrake was sent off at 10:59 with a 5 minute major and 10 game misconduct after he maliciously speared Ice Bears defenseman Dan Morin.

Weidauer added to his point total when he notch his first goal on the power play with Segal and third year player Peter Neal assisting at 15:12 of the first period to put the Ice Bears up 2-0.

Weidauer continued to scorch the FireAntz in the second period, he netted his second goal and third consecutive point when he buried a one timer shot off a pass from 2014 Free Agent Showcase graduate Bo Driscoll.

Fayetteville was able to get on the board 10 minutes later when Ludovic Kabambi poked one through at 15:46 of the second period. Ice Bears returned to the locker room after 40 minutes of play leading 3-1.

Ice Bears increased their lead in the third period when Travis Janke and Josh Cousineau each scored to put the Ice Bears up 5 -1 by the final buzzer.

Upon conclusion of the game, the teams participated in a 5 man shootout for an additional point on the board. Fayetteville was granted the final marker of the evening when they defeated the Ice Bears 2-1 in penalties. Official score ended with Knoxville defeating Fayetteville 5-2.

Knoxville travels to play the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday at 3 pm. The game will not be available for streamcasting.

The Knoxville Ice Bears will be hosting Cowboy Monkey Rodeo for Opening Night on November 1st for their first intermission activity. This will be the first time in the performer's history their act has been performed on an ice surface.
