Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - (August 15, 2012) The Knoxville Ice Bears Head Coach Mike Craigen announced today that the club has signed all-star forward Emery Olauson.

Last season saw Olauson lead the SPHL in goals with 44, and place second in the league with 88 total points. Olauson was named to the SPHL's All Star team, and was chosen as the SPHL player of the month for March. His 73 goals over the last two seasons leads the SPHL over that span. The 31(7/23/81) year-old native of Canmore, Alberta is entering his 9th professional season; his 3rd with the Ice Bears. He will fill one of the three veteran spots allotted to each SPHL team.

"Emery brings a multitude of intangibles to the Ice Bears not only on the ice with his proven offensive contributions but in the locker room too as an experienced leader. He's a great teammate who garners a lot of respect league round," said Head Coach Mike Craigen.

The 6'2", 198 pound forward played five years in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with Lubbock, Rio Grande Valley, Oklahoma, Amarillo and Odessa. While in Odessa, Olauson teamed with former Ice Bears Head Coach Scott Hillman. In 2008, Olauson started his SPHL career with Huntsville playing 26 games and scoring 26 points (14G, 12A). He spent the next two season with Fayetteville playing 107 games and scoring 104 points (44G, 60A). In 2010, Olauson signed with Knoxville spending the past two season with his current club. During his tenure, he amassed 145 points (73G, 73A) in 102 games played.

The Knoxville Ice Bears will be hosting a Charity Golf Classic to kick off the season. The event will run from 11:30 am to 5 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012. Contact the Icebears office for information.
