Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 2-1 in a thrilling five-on-five overtime shootout in front of a roaring crowd of 3,417.

After one missed power play opportunity early in the first period, the Ice Bears brought in a full rotation of new players following a Cottonmouth tripping call. Shortly after, Ice Bears left wing Ryan Salvis scored a power play goal with assists from Jason Price and Berkley Scott.

When Ice Bears Denis Sicard and Eric Satim were sent to the box for consecutive penalties, the Cottonmouths scored early on the five on three advantage, tying the game.

The second frame consisted of a heavy defensive battle with no goals scored, despite two power play opportunities for Columbus and one for the Ice Bears.

The final frame followed much of the same beat as the second with no goals scored with 11 shots fired by Knoxville overall and four shots for Columbus sending both teams to the overtime period. During the five minute showdown, each team fought heavily, but both were unable to find the net leaving the score tied at 1-1.

The beginning of the five-on-five shootout was tight with the first two shots fired by Columbus and Knoxville missing the net. Columbus then sent Nick Curry out whose shot was caught by Ice Bears goaltender Torris. Ryan Salvis of the Ice Bears found the net first giving the Ice Bears a one goal advantage. Shortly after a missed attempt by Columbus, the Ice Bears grew their lead to 2-0 based on a goal from Berkley Scott.

The Columbus Cottonmouths then responded when Levi Lynn shot the puck past Torris lowering the Ice Bears advantage to 2-1, with one shot left for each team. However, Mike Switzer of Columbus was unable to slide the puck past Torris sealing the Ice Bears' victory 2-1. Ice Bears goalie, Braely Torris, saved 34 out of 35 shots and is 13-4 overall this season as goalie.
