Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears and The Sports Animal (WNML) have teamed up with Medic Regional Blood Center for an annual blood drive on Monday February 7th. The blood drive will run from 8 am - 6:30 pm with members of the Knoxville Ice Bears professional hockey team participating in a meet and greet from 3 pm - 6:30 pm. The Sports Animal will be broadcasting live from Medic from 3 pm to 7 pm.
All donors will receive a "Buy One, Get One" free coupon to a Knoxville Ice Bears game as well as a limited edition Ice Bears t-shirt. Players will arrive at the donor center starting at 3pm; however, the special coupon will be given to donors all day.
MEDIC Regional Blood Center has been supporting Knoxville and surrounding areas for 52 years. They are the sole provider of blood for 21 counties and 27 local hospitals. As a non-profit organization MEDIC operates solely on the blood supplier processing fees charged to hospitals and is the only blood center in the U. S. that has a Blood Coverage Program covering members' blood supplier processing fees at any hospital in the country.
All donors receive MEDIC's Family Blood Coverage Program which exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood processing fees for one year if a transfusion is needed. Each donation adds another year's credit towards this mini-insurance program. For example, if you donate twice in 2011 then the donor and his/her IRS dependent would be covered until 2013. This benefit can save a family thousands of dollars!
Blood donated to MEDIC stays in the greater East Tennessee area to save the lives of family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
In order to keep up with the demand, MEDIC must collect 350 pints of blood each day to adequately supply local hospitals. MEDIC welcomes all who are interested in donating, donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds (16 year-olds weighing 120 pounds can donate but MUST have parental consent) and all donors must have positive identification.
The Knoxville Ice Bears and The Sports Animal have enjoyed an ongoing partnership with MEDIC Regional Blood Center in support of this annual blood drive that benefits residents of the region in their critical time of need.
