CICHY COMETH: Mike Cichy arguably made the best opening overture in Ice USHL history with back-to-back four-point nights in his Indiana debut this past weekend. Cichy accumulated a goal and three assists including the game-winner in Friday's 6-2 win over Chicago. His encore Saturday was also a goal, three assists scoring line in the loss to Green Bay. The future Fighting Sioux was acquired last week from Tri-City where he was the team's top scorer the last two seasons with 26 goals and 48 assists.
GALIEV RIDE: Forward Stanislav Galiev continues to pour it on offensively as the 1eague's youngest All-Star selection is riding a four-game point streak that includes three goals and four assists.
GETTING CLOSER EVERY DAY: Like it should continue for the rest of the season, the race for first and playoff seeding in the USHL's East Division remains an ongoing battle. Indy enters this week's action in first place (46 pts) in the division just two points ahead of Green Bay, but the Gamblers do have two games in hand. Cedar Rapids (43 pts), Waterloo (41 pts) and Chicago (37 pts) round out the other contenders.
PLAYER DROPLETS: Mike Cichy (37 pts), Stanislav Galiev (36 pts) and Brandon Richardson (36 pts) are three of the top eight scorers in the USHL...Cichy is also tied for second in the league with 25 assists....Loren Barron and Ben Albertson are both on three-game point streaks....Brent Gwidt has a goal in two straight games....Brett Bennett tops all USHL netminders with 19 wins....Torey Krug is fifth among league d-men in points (20).
TEAM POTPOURRI: Indiana is 10-5-2 against the East Division...The Ice is 16-0-0 when leading after two periods...Indy went 4-9 (44.4%) on the power play last weekend and is second at home in the USHL with the man advantage (21.5%)...The Ice is second in the league on the penalty kill (87.8%).
COLLEGIATELY SPEAKING: John Mitchell (2005-06) and Aaron Bendickson (2005-06) combined for seven points (2G, 5A) for Wisconsin in weekend games against Colorado College....Mike Gurtler (2006-07) scored a pair of goals for Mercyhurst in a weekend sweep of Sacred Heart....Goaltender Alex Kangas (2006-07) won twice for Minnesota in a weekend sweep of St. Cloud...Nick Bailen (2005-08) scored a big goal in Friday's 3-0 win for Bowling Green at Michigan...Cameron Schilling (2007-08) and Adam Cardwell (2004-05) scored their first collegiate points this past weekend for Miami and Alaska respectively.
