St. Paul Saints News Release
Foothill Ranch, Calif. - March 5, 2009 - IBN Sports (Interactive Broadcast Network Sports), a premiere Internet-based broadcast sports television network has reached an agreement with the St. Paul Saints professional baseball team for Internet rights to broadcast all 48 of its home games over the iBN Sports Baseball Channel (www.ibnsports.com http://www.ibnsports.com). The deal runs through the 2011 season.
The Saints, known internationally as a premier minor league baseball team, largely due to their famous promotions, owners (Mike Veeck, Bill Murray, etc), and capacity crowds are part of the American Association, an Independent Professional Baseball league. The league consists of teams from Texas, Nebraska, Florida, Louisiana, South Dakota, Kansas and Minnesota. IBN is in discussions with several other teams in the American Association, as well.
The Baseball Channel is one of the sports verticals within the network of iBN Sports that is targeted for growth in 2009. In 2008, IBN covered nearly 300 Independent professional baseball games in the Golden, Frontier, and Northern Leagues, so the addition of the Saints in the American Association brings IBN sports into 5 professional baseball leagues, with more to come.
"We are extremely excited to have the St. Paul Saints as a partner for the next several years," commented IBN Baseball Executive Producer Ed Hart. "We have been talking to them since late 2007, and finally have worked out a deal that will be mutually beneficial to the Saints, to IBN Sports, and especially to our sponsors and fans around the country. The Saints are probably the most well-known Independent team in the country, and perhaps even one of the most popular in all of baseball."
The Saints have been known for outlandish, crazy, and original promotions over the years, not surprising considering the involvement of Veeck and Murray in their ownership group. They have patented the term "Fun is Good", and this is the theme around everything the Saints do.
"Our broadcast is a very important identity to who the St. Paul Saints are and we always try to stay ahead of the curve," said Saints Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations Sean Aronson. "With IBN we can now offer our fans a high quality internet TV broadcast at no cost, which will allow all our fans across the world to enjoy Saints baseball."
The Saints have had a cult-like following over the past years, and this will allow fans all over the world to log on to www.IBNSports.com to watch their games live, and on-demand, at no cost.
The Saints' first home game of 2009, and their first broadcast on IBN Sports, will be on May 19, against the Lincoln Salt Dogs.
iBN Sports Baseball Channel anticipates adding several additional teams to its line-up of professional baseball in 2009, bringing hundreds of games into the homes of viewers across the world.
