Iowa Cubs News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Iowa Cubs (26-37) took the loss to Colorado Springs (36-24) in both ends of the double-header, Saturday at Security Service Field. Iowa has amassed four straight losses, its longest losing streak of the season.
Iowa snatched the lead with a run in the first of game one, but the Sky Sox took control with a four-run third and ran away with an 8-1 victory. The I-Cubs were held to four hits, while Colorado Springs rallied for 14. Ryan Cordell fell a home run shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two RBI.
Colorado Springs held the momentum into game two, getting two runs off Zac Rosscup in the first inning. Cordell, once again, helped the effort with a two-run bomb in the fifth and another in the sixth. The Sky Sox put together a seven-run sixth and the I-Cubs sunk to an 11-0 defeat. Position players Stephen Bruno and Taylor Davis pitched the final 1.2 innings of the contest, allowing four hits and a run between them.
Miguel Mejia was the only Iowa hurler of seven, not including the position players, to post a scoreless outing, going 1.1 innings and allowing one hit, walking two and whiffing one in game one. Victor Caratini was a bright spot in Iowa's lackluster offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one to record his team-leading 21st multi-hit contest.
The I-Cubs and Sky Sox wrap up the series at 2:30 p.m. CT at Security Service Field. Catch all the action on AM 940 or listen live on www.iowacubs.com .
