Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks earned their second win of the season as they defeated the Youngstown Phantoms 2-to-1 in a shootout from Mercy Health Arena on Friday, Nov. 3. Ben Strinden scored the lone goal in regulation for the Lumberjacks with Youngstown's Adam Ingram tieing the game in the third period for the Phantoms, but Muskegon's Quinn Hutson settled the score with his winning goal in the shootout.
1st Period
For the second week in the row, the Lumberjacks drew first blood, this time from Ben Strinden at 1:24 into the game. Strinden's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Quinn Hutson to give Muskegon the 1-to-0 lead.
After the first period, the Jacks carried a 1-to-0 lead into the dressing room for the first intermission.
2nd Period
The tight-scoring affair spilled over into the middle frame with both teams not able to light the lamp. Despite outshooting Muskegon 23-to-20 through 40 minutes of action, the Youngstown Phantoms trailed the Lumberjacks 1-to-0.
3rd Period
The Phantoms were able to even the score while on the power play, courtesy of Adam Ingram at 4:02 of the third period. Trey Taylor and Morgan Winter picked up helpers on Ingram's team-leading seventh goal of the season to tie the game 1-to-1.
With both teams deadlocked at one goal, the two teams proceeded to sudden-death overtime.
Overtime
No team could find the back of the net, but Lumberjack netminder Platon Zadorozhnyy came up with the timely save numerous times, including when his team was shorthanded for 100 seconds to begin the extra session.
After five minutes of three-on-three overtime, no team could hit the twine as both teams headed to a best-of-three shootout to decide the winner.
Shootout
Youngstown fired first but missed as Kyle Bettens couldn't hit the twine. Muskegon countered with Phil Tresca, but he also was denied.
In the second frame, Stiven Sardarian slid the puck past Zadorozhnyy to give Youngstown the shootout lead, but that was quickly answered by Muskegon's Jake Richard to even it a 1-to-1.
In the third round, Adam Ingram could score, so that set up Quinn Hutson to win the game, to which he ended the shootout and put a win in the win column for the Lumberjacks.
In the end, the Muskegon Lumberjacks survived to win their second game of the season, knocking off the Youngstown Phantoms by a final score of 2-to-1 in a shootout.
