It was a hard-fought battle in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Summer Collegiate World Series, but the Fond du Lac Doc Spiders prevailed over the Duluth Huskies 4-3 to secure the franchise's first championship.

Fond Du Lac got on the board first in the fourth inning when Cole Zabowski (Ole Miss) drove in Zac Taylor (Illinois) from second base to put the Doc Spiders on top 1-0.

Duluth would battle back quickly when Chris Gilbody (Georgetown College) brought in both Nicholas Sogard (Loyola-Marymount) and Carlos Moseley (Cumberland) to give the Huskies the 2-1 advantage after four innings.

The game would be tied in the top of the sixth inning when Andrew Bullock (Western Carolina) scored Alex Henwood (Nebraska) to even the title fight at two apiece.

After a costly Fond du Lac error in the bottom of the inning with two outs, the Huskies capitalized when Sean Watkins (Cal-State Los Angeles) hit a sharp single back up the middle that scored Carlos Mosely.

Duluth went into the seventh inning with a 3-2 lead, but the Doc Spiders came back and took the lead for good after Alex Henwood singled into left field and produced two runs to give Fond du Lac the 4-3 lead they would not relinquish.

The Huskies came up just short despite the team's best season in franchise history where they won 50 games and scored 501 runs, a Northwoods League record.
