Hurricanes Return Dwight Helminen To Albany

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Dwight Helminen has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes, their National Hockey League affiliate. The River Rats also announced that the team has recalled defenseman Jonathan Paiement from loan with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.

Helminen, 25, was recalled by Carolina on October 27th and made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes on October 28th at the Bell Centre in Montreal against the Canadiens. The Hancock, Michigan native has played in Carolina's last eight consecutive games and recorded his first NHL point by scoring his first NHL goal in the second period against the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 2nd at the RBC Center; in the third period he would assist on the game-winning goal for at two-point night. Helminen began the 2008-09 season in Albany, playing in the River Rats first six games and was leading the team with four points (2 goals, 2 assists) at the time of his call-up to the NHL.

Paiement, 23, signed a standard AHL contract with Albany on September 11th and attended the River Rats 2008 training camp. He was selected for the Rats opening night roster and made his Albany debut on October 11th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Montreal, Quebec native was then loaned to the Florida Everblades, where he has played in all nine games for Florida and is currently tied for third on the team with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) and has a +4 rating. Paiement has played 41 career AHL games, mostly during the 2007-08 season with Hershey and Rockford and has 15 career AHL points (4 goals, 11 assists).

The River Rats will complete their three-game home stand on Wednesday, November 12th as they host their I-90 Rivals the Syracuse Crunch for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
