
Hurricanes Overcome First Place Magic in Big Holiday Monday Win

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Hurricanes couldn't beat them in November. They couldn't beat them in December. The couldn't beat them in January. In February, the Hurricanes finally notched a win against their Atlantic Division rivals, the league-leading Moncton Magic.
The Hurricanes beat the Magic 100-91 on Monday at Scotiabank Centre in front of more than 2,500 fans.
With their fifth-straight win, the Hurricanes improve to 17-12 on the season and have closed the gap with the first place Moncton squad.
The Hurricanes entire roster chipped in to beat Moncton on Sunday, led by Jordan Washington with a team-high 23 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench. Washington hit 11 of his 15 free throws as part of his physical game.
Joel Kindred started his second game in a row for the absent Terry Thomas. He scored 17 points on 5-11 shooting and grabbed six boards.
Three other Hurricanes scored in double figures: Mike Poole with 11, Meshack Lufile with 11 and Tyler Thornton with 10 points. Rhamel Brown scored nine points in his 34 minutes, while pulling eight rebounds, and blocking three shots.
The Magic were led by Trey Kell, who had a game-high 24 points in the loss.
The Hurricanes return to Scotiabank Centre on Thursday to host the Island Storm for the first time this season. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or Online.
