CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Saint John Riptide created more distance in the Atlantic Division standings between themselves and the Island Storm, downing the home team 100-95 in an Islander Day matinee.

The Riptide handed the Storm their fifth straight defeat to move 4 ½ games ahead of their nearest Atlantic rival.

Saint John improved to 12-18 while the Storm fell to 5-20.

Frank Bartley, who earlier in the day was named the National Basketball League of Canada player of the week, kept it going Sunday afternoon scoring 28 points to pace the 'Tide.

T.J. Maston added 23 to go along with 11 boards, and Brent Arrington chipped in with 13 points.

Bryce Washington continued to be a force with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Kemy Osse had another strong game off the bench with 11.

Terrell Carter III led the way for the Storm with 20, while Sampson Carter added 19.

Saint John held a 73-62 advantage heading into the final quarter courtesy of some timely three balls by Arrington and Bartley.

The Riptide went into the break with a 41-38 halftime lead after trailing 22-20 after one period of action at the Eastlink Centre.

The Tide shot 45 per cent from the field, including connecting on 10-21 attempts from beyond the three-point arc. They also sank 28-31 free throws.

The Storm shot 43 per cent from the field, sinking 9-29 from the land beyond and hitting 22-29 free throws.

Saint John has six days to prepare for its next game, a date with the Cape Breton Highlanders at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harbour Station. The game is the first of five straight home games. The next four are:

Thursday vs. the Halifax Hurricanes - 7 p.m.

March 1 - vs. the Moncton Magic - 7 p.m.

March 2 - vs. the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans - 7 p.m.

March 7 - vs. the Moncton Magic - 7 p.m.
