The Halifax Hurricanes were unable to shake off the road rust in their return to Scotiabank Centre on Friday, losing 106-93 to the Cape Breton Highlanders.

Halifax trailed for much of the game before Mike Poole sparked a comeback in the third quarter, helping the Hurricanes grab a brief one-point lead. Poole finished with a team-high 27 points to go with his four rebounds, and three steals.

The Hurricanes couldn't hold on to their comeback and slipped back to a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Turnovers plagued the Hurricanes. They coughed up the ball 22 times, leading to 22 points for the Highlanders.

Bruce Massey led the Highlanders with 32 points and seven rebounds.

The Hurricanes return to action on Sunday, Dec. 30, when they host the St. John's Edge at 2 p.m. at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m. along with the Family Fun Zone. At halftime, the Hurricanes will feature a Paper Airplane Toss for a chance to win $500 cash. The Hurricanes will face some new competition that afternoon with the St. John's Edge, who recently signed former NBA Champion for the Boston Celtics, Glen "Big Baby" Davis.
