Hurricanes Defeat Storm in New Years Eve Matchup

Halifax, (NS) - Halifax Hurricanes Basketball Club faced the Island Storm in NBL Canada action December 31st, at the Eastlink Centre. The Hurricanes defeated the Storm, 115-112. After defeating the Miracles in the December 29th game, the Hurricanes have now won 2 games in a row; the Hurricanes are now 3-1.

Hurricanes trailed the Storm at the end of the first quarter 22-27, and in the second quarter the Hurricanes outscored the Storm 27-25; the Storm led at half time 49-52. In the third quarter, Storm outscored the Hurricanes 39-17, and in the fourth quarter the Hurricanes rallied after being down by 12 - to outscore the Storm 39-24; final score of the game being 115-112.

Coming off the bench, Guard, Justin Johnson led all scorers with 27 points and added 10 assists, earning a double-double while shooting 9/10 from the field and 5/6 from the free throw line. Forward, Mike Glover scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, coming off the bench. Guard, Shane Gibson scored 22 points. Center, Kyle Hunt scored 14 points. Guard, Joseph Bertrand scored 11 points. Forward, Billy White scored 10 points.

Forward, Mike Martin led the Storm with 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Forward, Brent Jennings scored 18 points and earned 7 rebounds. Guard, Malcom grant earned a double-double, scoring 17 points and added 10 assists. Center, Nick Evans scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Both teams shot the basketball above 50% from the field. Halifax Hurricanes shot the ball 50.6%, and the Island Storm shot 51.3% from the field. However, Island Storm committed more turnover than the Hurricanes. Pressure defense from the Hurricanes forced costly turnovers in the final minutes of the game by Storm.

The Hurricanes will face the Moncton Miracles on New Years Day at the Scotiabank Centre, January 1st at 7pm.
