
Hurricanes Defeat Moncton Miracles with Buzzer Beater

Halifax Hurricanes Basketball Club faced the Moncton Miracles January 1st at the Scotiabank Centre. The Hurricanes defeated the Miracles 124-121 in an overtime thriller. Hurricanes bring in the New Year with a win, giving them 4-1 record on the season.
At the end of the first quarter Halifax led Moncton 26-23, in the second quarter the Hurricanes outscored the Miracles 30-19, at one point going on a 26-6 run in the second quarter; at halftime the score was 56-42 in favor of the Hurricanes. In the third quarter the Miracles outscored the Hurricanes 38-23, earning their first lead of the game and a point lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, 3 consecutive three pointers by Justin Johnson in the last 30 seconds of the game, including a 4-point play sent the game to overtime.
Guard, Justin Johnson led the Hurricanes in scoring with 27 points, making 4/7 from the three point line. Forward, Kyle Hunt added 21 points and 6 rebounds. Newcomer, Joel Friesen scored 18 points, sparking the major run in the second quarter and making 4/5 from the three point line. Guard, Shane Gibson scored 15 points. Center, Billy White scored 12 points. Forward, Mike Glover scored 10 points in the win.
Guard, James Justice of the Miracles led all scorers with 34 points. Guard, Tyrrel Tate added 23 points in the loss. Dexter Strickland scored 17 points and had 7 assists in the game. Center, Tom Granado scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Joseph Bertrand hit a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Hurricanes their first victory of 2016.
League Commissioner, David Magley was in attendance and had much positive to say about the Halifax community and the Halifax Hurricanes organization after the game, "This organization has done a great job of putting together a good program and we believe in them moving forward, the city of Halifax deserves this" he said.
Halifax faces the Saint John Mill Rats on Sunday January 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Scotiabank Centre. The Mill Rats defeated the Hurricanes on December 27th at the Harbour Station - the Hurricanes look to defeat the Mill Rats on Sunday to improve their winning streak to 4 consecutive games.
