Hurricanes Defeat Mill Rats in Overtime

Halifax, (NS) - The Halifax Hurricanes Basketball Club were in action January 3rd at the Scotiabank Centre against the Saint John Mill Rats. The Hurricanes defeated the storm 125-121 in an overtime effort, to make it 4 consecutive wins. The Hurricanes now have a record of 5-1 and sit at the #1 spot in the Atlantic Division and in the league.

Saint John Mill Rats led the Halifax Hurricanes after the first quarter 32-23, and at Halftime the score was 54-45 in favor of the Mill Rats. The Mill Rats outscore the Hurricanes in the third quarter 32-31, and it took a 37-27 fourth quarter effort by the Hurricanes to send the game to overtime "" the final score at the end of regulation was 113-113. The Hurricanes outscored the Mill Rats in overtime 12-8, and winning the game 125-121.

Forward, Mike Glover led all scorers with 35 points while grabbing 6 rebounds coming off the bench. Guard, Shane Gibson scored 25 points while shooting 5/9 from the three point line. Forward, Anthony Criswell scored 15 points coming off the bench. Center, Kyle Hunt scored 13 points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Guard, Justin Johnson scored 11 points and added 8 assists coming off the bench. Guard, Joseph Bertrand scored 11 points.

Gabe Freeman led the Mill Rats in points scored, with 31 and grabbed 11 rebounds. Guard, Doug Herring Jr scored 28 points. Guard, Corey Allmond scored 21 points. Guard, Anthony Anderson scored 19 points.

This is the fourth late game comeback win for the Halifax Hurricanes in the last seven days. Thus far, Forward, Mike Glover leads the Hurricanes in points scored per game and rebounds per game, averaging 22 ppg and 6.8 rpg.

The Hurricanes will face Island Storm Thursday at the Scotiabank Centre, January 7th at 7pm.
