Huntsville Flight News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Dec. 20) â Damone Brown scored 11 of his game-high 31 points in overtime as the North Charleston Lowgators defeated the Huntsville Flight 99-90 here Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Flight (9-6) lost for just the first time in the last three games on the road, while the Lowgators (8-8) won for the second time in their last three contests.
Sedric Webber added 23 points for North Charleston, while Corey Benjamin chipped in 17 and Peter Cornell added 14. The Flight got 21 points from Lonnie Harrell, as Eric Chenowith contributed with a season-best 18 points to go along with nine rebounds. Bakari Hendrix also scored in double figures for the Flight with 16 points and Demetric Shaw added 10 off the bench.
With the game tied at 77 at the end of regulation, North Charleston got a pair of 3-pointers from and a 3-point play from Brown to trigger a 14-5 run to start the overtime session.
The Flight, in the meantime, could not cut into the lead as they had trouble at the foul line down the stretch. Hendrix missed three of his five free throws in the overtime session and five of his final seven from the line as he missed a pair with the game tied at 69 with 4:31 remaining in the fourth period. The Flight finished 19-of-27 at the line for the game for 70.4 percent, while the Lowgators hit 24-of-25 for 96 percent.
The Flight had led at the half 35-32 on a Harrell 3-pointer just before the break and took an advantage of as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter. A 13-2 run, though, by the Lowgators tied the score at 65 apiece, capped by a Brown dunk.
It looked as if the Lowgators would put the game away in regulation as Webber hit a running shot in the lane with 23.5 seconds remaining and added a free throw to put North Charleston up 77-74. The Flight, though, got one free throw in two tries from Lonnie Harrell and Greg Stempin tied the game with a pair of foul shots with nine ticks left after being fouled in a loose ball situation.
The Flight fell victim to 24 turnovers that led to 32 Lowgator points and were outrebounded in the contest 41-36.
Huntsville returns home Saturday when they take on Asheville in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Von Braun Center. It will be "Extreme Night" at the VBC as demonstrations from various extreme sports during the game. Also, Healthsouth Backpacks will be given away.
