Rebuilding the Gym

December 20, 2002 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

The Greenville Groove is helping to rebuild a local high school gymnasium by hosting a basketball triple-header Saturday and donating $4 from every ticket sold to the rebuilding fund for the Southside Christian Academy gym, which burned down Nov. 20. Marking the first time that prep teams have ever played a basketball game at the Bi-Lo Center, the Southside Christian girls and boys teams will play Liberty High School. Tipoff for the girls' game is set for 2 p.m., with the boys to follow. The Groove hosts Columbus at 7 p.m. and one ticket is good for all three games. Tickets are maybe purchased for as little as $8 for adults. Kids always get in to Groove games for $5.

Larry's Kids

The Fayetteville Patriots will help at least 154 children receive a Christmas present by pitching in with the Larry's Kids program run by OLDIES 96.5 FM in Fayetteville. Patriots' players will have lunch with the children today and give them their gifts before hosting the group at Saturday's game against the Mobile Revelers. The Patriots will also host a silent auction at the game, with bidders attempting to land autographed memorabilia from NBA, NHL and collegiate stars.

Extreme Huntsville

In addition to hosting the Asheville Altitude Saturday at the Von Braun Center, the Huntsville Flight will also be holding "Extreme Night." Activities during the game will include demonstrations from various extreme sports. Groups from World Conspiracy Sports and the Sports Specialty Store are the scheduled performers. The Flight will also give a free backpack to the first 500 fans in attendance, courtesy of HealthSouth and SportsMed..

Patriots Hot, Flight Steady

The Fayetteville Patriots are the NBDL's hottest team going into the weekend slate, but the Huntsville Flight has proven early on to be the steadiest team in the league. The Patriots have won five straight games to pull into a second place tie with Greenville at 8-6. Huntsville has defended its home floor four of five times to lead the league at 9-5.
