
Huntsville defeats Columbus

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 15 â The Huntsville Flight used a strong second quarter en route to a 97-91 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths in National Basketball Development League action at the Von Braun Center. The Flight outscored the Dragons 26-13 in the decisive second quarter as Randy Orr came off the bench for six points and three rebounds in the period. The loss ended a 12-game win streak for Columbus, an NBDL record.
Huntsville went on a 10-0 run starting with a Rodney Bias put-back at the 9:53 mark of the second. Damone Brown had 10 points in the half as the Flight stretched the lead to 48-31at the intermission.
Columbus outscored Huntsville 31-23 in the third quarter to get back in the game, sparked by Reed Rawlings' eight points. After the Riverdragons cut the deficit to just three halfway through the fourth quarter, the Flight reeled off six straight points to regain control of the game.
Brown finished with 26 points, and Bernard King added 22 points and four rebounds for the Flight. Bias had 15 rebounds to go along with six points as the Flight improved to 12-8 overall, and 7-3 at home.
Adam Harrington led Columbus, scoring 19 points off the bench. Scott Merritt added 18 points and six rebounds as Columbus fell to 14-2 overall, and 5-2 on the road. The Flight handed the Riverdragons their only other loss of the season at the VBC in November.
The Flight will take on the Roanoke Dazzle tomorrow in the NBDL Martin Luther King Jr. Showcase in Columbus. The Riverdragons will take on Asheville tomorrow in the Showcase.
