DANVILLE, IL - Dragons coach Jarrod Rogol has hired Jeff Hunt as Danville's new defensive coordinator effective immediately. Hunt comes to Danville after a stint in af2 and was with Rogol in 2006 on the NIFL's RiverCity Rage staff.
"I'm pleased to be announced as defensive coordinator of the Danville Dragons. It is an honor to be able to get an opportunity to work with coach Rogol and the rest of the staff, stated Hunt. "I am also grateful for the past opportunities I've had to work with coaches such as Stan Davis, Sparky McEwen and the late Mike Wyatt as well as having the chance to work tryouts for Lee Johnson and Chris Siegfried. I am going to bring what I have learned from these great coaches to the men on our roster and create a dominating defensive force."
Coach Hunt most recently was with af2's Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz in 2008 as a DB, DL, Quality Control Coach and assisted Stan Davis in taking the defense from 29th in the league to the top five.
"Coach Hunt has always been someone I've respected in our business and his credentials speak for themselves," stated Rogol. "His ability to communicate with players, knowledge of the game and keen sense for breaking down offenses and player evaluation will make us successful."
During his two seasons with the Rage, his defensive backs led the NIFL in interceptions with 31 and 37 respectively. The 37 interceptions came in eight regular season games and the Rage ended the 2006 season with a 14-2 record overall and was the Atlantic North Champions.
In 2001 he coached the MFL 2001 Champion Fury. With the Bellville Justice his defensive unit set a record with 40 interceptions in one season and won the 2002 league championship..
Hunt played defensive back at Triton College in Chicago, IL. After his collegiate career he was invited to work out with the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams.
Off the field, since 2005, Hunt has been a board member for the Marshall Faulk Foundation, working with inner-city youth. In 2009, Hunt worked a camp with San Diego Charger Quentin Jammer, which raised $60,000 for cancer research. Hunt also worked a camp with Kwamie Lassiter of the Arizona Cardinals.
