Hubbard's Contract Purchased by San Diego

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers announced today that OF Trenidad Hubbard has had his contract purchased by the San Diego Padres. To make room on San Diego's 40-man roster, 1B Kevin Barker has been designated for assignment.

Hubbard, 36, began the season with San Diego but joined Portland on June 25. In seven games with the Beavers, he hit .417 with three home runs and six RBIs. Hubbard hit .192 in 50 games during his first stint this season with San Diego.

Hubbard has played all or parts of the last nine seasons with eight major league teams, including: Colorado, San Francisco, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Baltimore, Kansas City, and San Diego.

Barker, 27, was in his first season with the Beavers after spending the 2001 season with Indianapolis of the International League and Huntsville of the Southern League. Selected in the third round of the 1996 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Barker hit .254 in 66 games with Portland this season. He was promoted to San Diego on June 11 this season, and hit .158 in seven games for the Padres before returning to Portland on June 28.
