Madison Capitols News Release

The Madison Capitols find themselves in the middle of a 7-game winning streak after securing a series sweep over the Muskegon Lumberjacks with a 6-4 victory tonight.

The Capitols rattled off five of their six lamp lighters this evening in the opening 20 minutes. Two of which were scored in the opening 2:13 of the game.

Blueliner Ben Dexheimer scored his first goal of the season walking in a wrist shot from the slot and firing it home on the power play just 1:53 into the game. Caps forward Tyler Haskins tallied the lone assist on the goal, his first of three points tonight. 20 seconds later, Jack Musa found the back of the net tapping a rebound into a yawning net off a Jack Horbach shot.

The Capitols had to weather some storms tonight. The Lumberjacks seemed to have an answer almost ever time the Capitols scored. Muskegon answered the Capitols fourth goal of the game 13 seconds later and their fifth goal, 44 seconds later.

"It was an absolute war out there tonight," Madison Capitols head coach Tom Upton said. "I thought it was a great game. We came out and we pushed and they pushed and then we pushed and then they pushed. Muskegon was resilient tonight, they kept coming. That was a gutsy win, Muskegon is a good team and they played very well. It was a great battle."

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Capitols would have to weather one more score as the Lumberjacks capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play 4:21 into the 3rd period to pull within one. Jack Musa responded with his second goal of the night putting home a beautiful one-handed backhand shot to put the Capitols up 6-4 with 8:09 left in regulation. The Caps closed out the rest of the game and skated to their seventh win of the 2021-22 campaign.

"It's nice but we talk about it all the time, for elite teams, the most important win is the next one," said Upton of his squads seven-game win streak. "We'll feel good about this tonight but we look forward to the next opportunity to win."
