Houston Takers News Release
Houston, TX. The ABA Houston Takers today announced that head coach Sam Smith has been released by the team. According to team owner Larry Leonard II, "Unfortunately, it didn't work out the way we planned and we seemed to be going in two different directions. I wish coach Sam all the best and hope that he can find a position somewhere in the league. He is an excellent coach and I'm sorry it didn't work out here in Houston."
The Takers had an excellent 4-0 record in pre-season and averaged 103.2 points per game. The team will open its season on Friday in Houston at Reagan High School against the 2006 ABA runners-up, the powerful Texas Tycoons. And yes, the senior Howard Judah will be suited up and ready to play.
"We will announce our new head coach tomorrow," added Leonard. "And we are very excited about it."
The Houston Takers will be wearing blue and orange jerseys named Genesis to help raise funds for Elves and More for the month of November. Elves and More is a non-profit organization in the Houston area that will provide at least 25,000 bicycles for the underprivileged children of Houston. During November, the Takers will donate 5% of their four-game homestand and also signup at least 75 volunteers to help build the bicycles.
