Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Tuesday, June 24, 2014) - The Houston Dynamo meet FC Dallas at 8 p.m. tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium in the fifth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Tickets start at $15 and are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL or by visiting the BBVA Compass Stadium ticket office (2200 Texas St., Houston).
The game will be streamed live at www.HoustonDynamo.com. There will be no radio broadcasts.
The winner of tonight's game will travel to face the winner of tonight's encounter between the LA Galaxy and Carolina RailHawks (NASL) in a quarterfinal match up on July 8 or 9.
The Dynamo defeated the Laredo Heat (PDL), 1-0, in the U.S. Open Cup fourth round on June 11 behind a goal from Alexander Lopez. FC Dallas eliminated the San Antonio Scorpions (NASL), 2-0, in the fourth round on June 17 to advance to meet the Dynamo.
Tonight is the third all-time Open Cup meeting between the Texas rivals. Houston secured a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Dallas in 2006. FC Dallas reversed the score line with a 3-0 home triumph in a fourth-round meeting last June.
The 2014 U.S. Open Cup marks the 101st edition of the oldest club competition in the United States. The single-elimination competition features clubs across all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid. Sixteen teams currently remain in the competition for the fifth round: 12 MLS clubs, three from the NASL and one from USL PRO (Rochester Rhinos). The Open Cup champion receives a place in the CONCACAF Champions League next year.
Following tonight's game, the Dynamo resume MLS play on Sunday with a road game against the Montreal Impact. The Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday, July 4 to host the New York Red Bulls in a 2013 playoff rematch. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL or by visiting the BBVA Compass Stadium ticket office (2200 Texas St., Houston).
