Dynamo vs. Dallas - Dynamo set to defend el capitn in texas derby

The Houston Dynamo (4-4-4; 16 points) are set to battle FC Dallas (3-8-4; 13 points) in the lone edition of the Texas Derby in 2012. With the move to an unbalanced schedule in 2012, the Dynamo and FC Dallas have just one regular season meeting. The Dynamo captured El Capitn, a replica mountain howitzer cannon awarded to the club that wins the season series, in 2011 for the fourth time in six years since the rivalry's birth in 2006. The Dynamo are coming off a 3-1 defeat at Vancouver on Sunday, with Macoumba Kandji scoring his first goal with the Dynamo. FC Dallas is winless in its last nine games (0-6-3) after falling on the road to Real Salt Lake, 3-2, on May 26.

The Texas Derby: The Dynamo and FC Dallas have staged a fierce rivalry since 2006, with the Dynamo enjoying an 8-3-7 regular season record against their Texas rivals. Houston captured the lone postseason meeting, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory over Dallas in 2007, with a vital comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the second leg. Brad Davis has the most assists in the history of the series, with seven, including two games with two assists. The Dynamo is 5-1-3 in regular season home games against Dallas. On a note related to the fierce nature of the rivalry, the record for most fouls committed in the series belongs to former Dynamo defender Eddie Robinson and former FC Dallas forward Carlos Ruiz, who each committed 24 fouls in the series. 2011 Meetings: The Dynamo reclaimed El Capitan with a 2-1 road win at Pizza Hut Park on Sept. 24. Geoff Cameron headed in a Brad Davis corner kick in the 87th minute to ensure Houston's first road win of the campaign. In the first meeting, the Dynamo and FC Dallas played to a 2-2 draw at Robertson Stadium on May 28. Houston overcame two deficits for the tie as Cam Weaver and Colin Clark each equalized after Andrew Jacobsen and Ugo Ihemelu had given the visitors the lead. Clark's equalizer came in the 87th minute with the Dynamo down a man and involved Brad Davis' second assist of the night and Weaver, who earned the other assist on the tying goal.

Dynamo Notes

Dynamo sign Oscar Boniek Garca: The Dynamo acquired Honduran midfielder Oscar Boniek Garca on June 7. The 27-year-old Designated Player will be eligible to join the roster when the international transfer window opens on June 27. Garca has played for Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2007 after his first tenure with the club from 2003-06. With Garca, Olimpia captured the 2011-12 Honduran League Apertura and Clausura championships. The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 67 appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Dynamo will face Olimpia in CONCACAF Champions League group play.

Cameron, Hainault, Taylor, Watson return from national duty: Three members of Houston's heralded backline and regular starting midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson have returned from national duty with their home countries after missing Sunday's game against the Whitecaps. Geoff Cameron played the second half off USA's 1-1 draw at Guatemala on Tuesday. The center back also played 90 minutes in a friendly vs. Scotland on May 26. It was Cameron's third national team call-up. Andre Hainault was called into the Canadian men's national team camp and played 90 minutes in a friendly vs. the U.S. and 90 minutes in both of Canada's Olympic qualifiers against Cuba and Honduras to reach 28 caps. Watson started three matches for Jamaica, including a 2-1 win over Guatemala and a 0-0 draw vs. Antigua & Barbuda in a pair of qualifying matches. Taylor did not appear in any of the three games for Jamaica.

Dynamo host Valencia in BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup: The Dynamo welcomed Spanish giants Valencia to BBVA Compass Stadium on May 31, with Valencia capturing a 2-1 win in the friendly. Dynamo midfielder Calen Carr produced a sensational individual goal in the 14th minute, dribbling pas several defenders from the touchline before unleashing a howling left-footed strike from 25 yards into the far corner. Valencia forward Aritz Aduriz scored both goals for Valencia, which defeated Portland 1-0 in the other game on its U.S. tour.

Champions League Draw: The Dynamo were drawn into Group 3 of the 2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League at the official draw held on June 5. Houston will face C.D. Olimpia of Honduras and C.D. FAS of El Salvador. The Dynamo qualified for the tournament by advancing to the 2011 MLS Cup Final. This is the fifth appearance for the Dynamo in the regional championship, including semifinal runs in the 2007 and 2008 Champions Cup tournaments. It is the first appearance for the Dynamo in Champions League since they advanced to the quarterfinals in 2008-2009. Group play runs from July 31-Oct. 25. Exact dates for group gamers have not been announced.

Ching reaches 200 MLS games: Brian Ching played in his 200th MLS games on Sunday at Vancouver.

Hainault hits 100 starts: Andre Hainault started against the Galaxy on May 26 for his 100th career start in all competitions for the Dynamo. He scored with a header in the 57th minute for his second game-winner of the season.

Sellout streak hits five: Today's match against FC Dallas is sold out. The Dynamo have sold out all five home games at BBVA Compass Stadium, including the May 31 friendly with Valencia. The attendance has been 22,039 at all four home games in 2012.

75 assists for Davis: Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 75th assist for the Dynamo in all competitions with his corner kick that Andre Hainault headed into the net for the winning goal vs. the Galaxy on May 26. Davis is Houston's all-time leader in assists.

Ching now tied for third on Dynamo games played list: Ching has appeared in 136 MLS regular season games with the Dynamo and is now tied with Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad for third on Houston's all-time list.

Ching climbing assist chart: Ching has 18 MLS regular season assists with the Dynamo. With his next assist, he will tie Brian Mullan for second on the Dynamo all-time list.

First Comeback Win: The Dynamo recorded a 2-1 win on May 26 over the LA Galaxy for their first come-from-behind win of the season. Prior to the Galaxy game the Dynamo were 0-3-1 on the season when allowing the first goal of the game.

East Coast Bias: After today's match with FC Dallas, the Dynamo will play their next 14 games against teams in the Eastern Conference. Houston is 1-2-3 vs. the Eastern Conference, but five of those six games were played on the road. The next time the Dynamo face a team from the Western Conference is Sept. 6, when they host Real Salt Lake.

Second Half Savants: The Dynamo are 3-0-4 in games in which they were tied at halftime and 1-0 when leading at halftime, for a perfect 4-0-4 mark when tied or leading at the break. Houston is 0-4 when trailing at the interval.

Hainault's game-winners: Defender Andre Hainault's 57th-minute winner vs. the Galaxy was his second game-winning goal of the season. Hainault buried a shot from 12 yards in the second minute of stoppage time on opening day, a 1-0 win at Chivas USA on March 11, for his first game-winner this season.

Daytime Dominance: Houston's 3-1 loss at Vancouver on Sunday was its first loss in a day game this season, with its record dropping to 4-1. The Dynamo have daytime wins over Chivas USA, San Jose, D.C. United and the Galaxy. The Dynamo are 0-3-4 at night, but six of the seven night games have been on the road. Houston has two more day games this season (July 28 at Toronto FC and Sept. 29 at Philadelphia).

Cameron's streak ends: Geoff Cameron missed the May 26 game with the Galaxy while playing for the U.S. in its 5-1 win over Scotland. It was the first MLS game that Cameron had missed since May 4, 2011 vs. Colorado. Prior to Saturday, Cameron had started and played full time in 40 consecutive matches (playoffs included), the longest streak among Houston field players in team history. Cameron played 3,576 consecutive minutes in MLS play (playoffs included) before his latest absence. Goalkeeper Tally Hall leads all players with 45 consecutive MLS starts. In a similar feat, Brad Davis' streak of 45 consecutive starts was broken at Chicago on April 15 due to a calf strain.

BBVA Compass Stadium opener: The Dynamo opened the 13th soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer on May 12. On a gorgeous, 82-degree day in front of a sell-out crowd of 22,039, the Dynamo honored past legends, including Wade Barrett, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Craig Waibel in a pregame ceremony that included the unveiling of 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championship banners. Brad Davis provided a signature opening moment, delivering a beautiful, curling 30-yard strike for the game-winning goal in the 67th minute.

Clutch: Luiz Camargo's 87th-minute equalizer at New England on May 19 was Houston's third late goal on the road this season. Brian Ching's equalizer in the 81st minute at Columbus on April 21 and Hainault's game-winner two minutes into stoppage time at Chivas USA on March 11 were also reminiscent of 2011 for the Dynamo. Last year, Houston scored 14 goals in the final 15 minutes of games, the second most in MLS (Seattle).

1st for Camargo: Luiz Camargo's equalizer in the 87th minute at New England on May 19 was his first MLS goal.

4 games in 11 days: The Dynamo completed a stretch of four games in 11 days with the 2-2 draw at New England on May 19. While Dominic Kinnear rotated the squad throughout the run of games, several players logged large quantities of minutes. Tally Hall, Bobby Boswell, Geoff Cameron and Jermaine Taylor each logged all 360 minutes in the four games. Calen Carr (327 minutes), Brad Davis (324) and Will Bruin (273) each logged solid time as well.

Ashe moves to second on franchise list: With his start on May 15 Portland, Corey Ashe played in his 137th MLS regular season game to move to second on the Dynamo all-time list, passing Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad.

Boswell Bicentennial: Bobby Boswell faced his former team (D.C. United) on May 12 for his 200th Major League Soccer appearance in his eight-year career. Boswell also made his 200th MLS start vs. the Galaxy on May 26. The central defender has been very consistent in his career, averaging 27.4 games per season and has played every minute of every match in 2012. Boswell has played at least 23 games in each season and has played full time in 21 consecutive MLS matches (playoffs included) dating to Sept. 14, 2011 at Columbus.

Clean Sheets: The Dynamo earned their fourth clean sheet through nine games in the 0-0 draw with Portland on May 15. Through nine games in 2011, the Dynamo had recorded just one shutout. Houston recorded a total of six shutouts in the 2011 regular season.

Carr Centennial: Calen Carr's start at New England on May 19 was his 100th MLS regular season appearance.

Davis reaches 25 Dynamo goals with BBVA Compass opener: Brad Davis' sensational 30-yard strike against D.C. United on May 12 was his 25th goal in all competitions with the Dynamo. Davis is the third Dynamo player to reach 25 goals, joining Brian Ching (64) and Dwayne De Rosario (32). It was Davis' 37th MLS regular season goal.

Offensive: The Dynamo produced 38 shots in their first two games at BBVA Compass Stadium. May 15 vs. Portland the Men in Orange bombarded Troy Perkins with 18 shots. On May 12, the Dynamo outshot D.C. United 20-4 for their most shots in a game this season. Houston set a franchise record with 27 shots vs. New England on April 17, 2011.

Davis Milestone: Brad Davis started against D.C. United on May 12 for his 150th MLS regular season start with the Dynamo. Davis is the franchise leader in regular season starts.

Cameron Climbing: With Geoff Cameron's start at New England on May 19 he reached 141 appearances in all competitions to pass Wade Barrett for seventh on the Dynamo all-time list.

Corey Ashe made his 175th appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions at D.C. on April 28. He is the third Dynamo player to reach 175 appearances in all competitions (Brad Davis, Brian Mullan).

Will Bruin scored in three consecutive games (4/15, 4/21, 4/28) to mark the fifth time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games (Bruin 2012, Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009).

The three goals allowed by the Dynamo on April 28 at D.C. United marked the first time Houston has allowed three goals in a game since Sept. 10, 2011, a 3-0 loss at Sporting KC, ending a 15 game stretch without allowing three goals in a game.

Possession: Despite playing their first seven games on the road, the Dynamo have won the possession battle in 10 of 12 games on the season and had slim disadvantages in the others. Houston had a 54-46% possession advantage at Vancouver, 60% possession vs. LA, 62% at New England, 60% vs. Portland, 56% vs. D.C., 53% at New York, 54% at D.C., a 49-51% disadvantage at Columbus, 55% at Chicago, 56% at Seattle, a disadvantage (48-52%) at San Jose, and 53% at Chivas USA.

First Road Win of 2012: Houston's 1-0 win over Chivas USA on March 11 erased bad memories of the 2011 road schedule. It took Houston 16 games to record its first road win of the 2011 campaign. After a 0-6-9 start, the Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 1-0 at Pizza Hut Park on September 24.

Six years after the club's first match on April 2, 2006, only two players remain on the Dynamo roster: Brian Ching and Brad Davis. Defender Eddie Robinson retired in January and joined the front office as an assistant coach with the team's Youth Academy and as a color analyst on TV broadcasts.

UP NEXT: DYNAMO BEGIN EASTERN STREAK VS. TORONTO

The Dynamo welcome Toronto FC on Wednesday for the first of 14 consecutive games against the Eastern Conference. It will be the first of three meetings with TFC in 2012, with Houston visiting Toronto on July 28 and hosting TFC again on Aug. 25.
