Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC signed midfielder Luis Caicedo for the 2023 season with club options for 2024 and 2025, the Club announced today.
"We are excited to welcome Luis to Houston. He is a tenacious central midfielder with valuable MLS experience," said Dynamo general manager, Pat Onstad. "We are looking to increase the competition for minutes across our roster and his signing adds another quality option in our midfield corps."
The 26-year-old spent 2022 in his native Colombia with Cortuluá FC and competed in both Liga Dimayor and Liga Dimayor II. Caicedo finished with 36 appearances for the team in all competitions. He returned to Colombia after spending four years in Major League Soccer with the New England Revolution.
New England initially signed Caicedo on loan using Targeted Allocation Money prior to the 2018 season and finished fifth in the league in ball carrier pressures in his first campaign. The midfielder ended his New England Career in 2021, appearing in 65 MLS games over four years.
Caicedo signed with Cortuluá FC in 2015 and made his debut as a 19-year-old as a second half substitute against CD La Equidad Seguros SA in Nov. 2015. He finished with 70 league appearances and 67 starts for Cortuluá from 2015-2018. He scored three goals and helped the club reach the first division in 2016. At the youth level he led Cortuluá's U-20 team to the semifinals of the 2016 U-20 Copa Libertadores.
The Colombian midfielder began his professional career in Portugal with Sporting CP during the 2014-2015 season.
The signing is Houston Dynamos 13th new addition to the first team this offseason.
