Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC signed defender Griffin Dorsey for the 2021 season with club options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the Club announced today. Dorsey will join the team pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate from the Canadian Soccer Association.
"Griffin is a player that we feel at just 22 years old has the upside and capacity to continue to grow within our group and system," said Senior Vice President & General Manager Matt Jordan.
Dorsey joins the Dynamo after three seasons with Toronto FC and its USL affiliate Toronto FC II. Dorsey finished with 27 appearances for both teams in all competitions, including appearances in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League and the 2019 Concacaf Champions League tournaments.
"Griffin is a player I know well from the youth national teams. He is young and has excellent potential to be a consistent MLS player," Dynamo head coach Tab Ramos said. "Additionally, he is the type of person and relentless worker that will continue to help us build a new culture in Houston."
The defender signed a Generation adidas contract in January 2019 and was later selected with the sixth overall pick by Toronto FC. The Evergreen, Colorado native was previously coached by Ramos in the U-20 Men's National Team and also represented the U-18 U.S. Men's National Team.
The defender played two seasons at Indiana University and finished with 44 appearances. Dorsey scored eight goals and tallied 11 assists for the Hoosiers. The midfielder named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Second Team All-America, USC First Team All-North Region, First Team All-Big 10 Conference and Academic All-Big 10 Conference in his final season with Hoosiers.
With the addition of Dorsey, the Dynamo have 29 players on the active roster for the 2021 MLS season.
