HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo 2 fell 2-1 to Timbers2 at SaberCats Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Forward Yair Gonzalez was fouled by Portland defender Blake Popeinside the penalty area as he was attacking toward the goal in 23rd minute. Yair Gonzalez converted from the spot for his fourth of the season to give Houston the early lead.

Portland's Tega Ikoba equalized in the 39th minute after a transition pass caught Houston off guard.

Timbers2 took the lead in the 70th minute after a foul was drawn inside the box by the Portland attack. Forward Florián Monzón converted from the spot to give Timbers 2 the lead in the 70th minute

Goalkeeper Andrew Pannenberg made a key stop in the 15th minute of the match after a turnover resulted in a fast break opportunity for Portland. Pannenberg intercepted the shot by Portland's leading scorer Florián Monzón at the top of the 18-yard box to stop the early threat by Timbers2.

Midfielder Jacob Evans had a shot in the 19th minute that narrowly missed the inside of the near post. Evans was fighting off two Timbers2 defenders in the 18-yard box as he took the shot.

Defender Isaiah LeFlore nearly scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute of the match after a clearance following a Dynamo 2 corner kick. LeFlore took the shot from atop the 18-yard box, missing over the crossbar by a mere inches.

Midfielder Charles August took a shot in the 44th minute that sailed just over the crossbar.

Defender Talen Maples nearly gave Houston the lead in the 50th minute after a rebound off a corner kick forced Timbers2 goalkeeper Ryan Bilichuk to make a save. A minute later, Yair Gonzalez nearly had a brace after taking a shot from the left side of the goal but was once again saved by Bilichuk.

Dynamo 2 midfielder Diego Gonzalez nearly scored the equalizer in the 75th minute after taking a direct shot on goal that forced another save. The rebound nearly fell at the feet of Diego Gonzalez again but the Timbers2 defense was able to clear the threat.

In the closing minutes of regulation, Houston had the ball in the Portland 18-yard box. Yair Gonzalez took the ball deep toward goal and forced the Timbers2 goalkeeper to come off his line and end the threat.

Dynamo 2 return to SaberCats Stadium on Sunday, June 25 to take on Earthquakes II for the first time this season. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT.
