Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dash forward María Sánchez was named the National Women's Soccer League's Player of the week earlier today.
The Idaho native scored Houston's opening goal of the match in the 56th minute after Racing Louisville FC's goalkeeper Katie Lund blocked a shot and the ball fell right to Sánchez's left foot for her first goal of the year. Sánchez's goal marked the 100th goal scored in Challenge Cup history.
Two minutes later, Sánchez took on a Louisville defender on the left flank and dribbled past her to find midfielder Marisa Viggiano in the box for the equalizer. Sánchez was also named the Budweiser player of the Match for leading the team to their first victory of the tournament.
Sánchez and the Dash will take on the Kansas City Current later today at PNC Stadium at 7:30 p.m. CT in the third match of group play in the central division. Houston will travel to Chicago this weekend to take on the Red Stars on April 2.
