Two own goals cost theÃÂ Houston DashÃÂ three points against the Chicago Red Stars this afternoon atÃÂ SeatGeekÃÂ Stadium.ÃÂ ÃÂ
Dash forward Jasmyne Spencer sparked the opening goal of the game in the 62nd minute with a box-to-box run. The forward wasÃÂ able to slip a pass toÃÂ forwardÃÂ VeronicaÃÂ LatskoÃÂ who finished at the far post.ÃÂ
HoustonÃÂ concededÃÂ two own goals in theÃÂ span ofÃÂ three minutesÃÂ beginning withÃÂ midfielder SheaÃÂ GroomÃÂ in the 73rd minute and defender KatieÃÂ NaughtonÃÂ three minutes later. Both players attempted toÃÂ clear the ballÃÂ inside their own penalty area, but conceded goals to the Red Stars, who finished with no shots on goal today.ÃÂ
The DashÃÂ finished with two shots on goal, the first coming in the 13th min when GroomÃÂ shot in the box forcing a save on Chicago goalkeeper Cassie Miller.ÃÂ In the 20th minute,ÃÂ midfielderÃÂ GabbyÃÂ SeilerÃÂ dribbled towards the boxÃÂ past a Red Stars defender and forced a block.ÃÂ Five minutes later, midfielderÃÂ MakamaeÃÂ Gomera-StevensÃÂ crossed a ball in the box to find Groom, whoÃÂ just missed the inside of theÃÂ leftÃÂ postÃÂ by inches.
Houston continued to press, creating chances and attacking through the wings. In theÃÂ 41stÃÂ minute, forwardÃÂ SpencerÃÂ dribbledÃÂ through the rightÃÂ flank, closing-inÃÂ onÃÂ Chicago's box. SheÃÂ testedÃÂ her luck on a ball with a tough angle, sending the ballÃÂ just outsideÃÂ the net.ÃÂ
