Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

Pittsburgh, PA-The Riverhounds (0-1-0) travel to Harrisburg this weekend to battle intra-state rival, the City Islanders (0-0-0) for their Home Opener. The first meeting of the Keystone Derby takes place at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island on Saturday, April 16th at 7:00 PM.

Riverhounds Last Time Out

The Riverhounds are coming off a tough 2-1 road loss to the Richmond Kickers (2-0-0) last Saturday. The Kickers took the lead in 69th minute of play from the foot of Gerson Dos Santos. The Riverhounds wasted little time to draw even at one with a counter attack conversion by rookie Ben Horner, assisted by Chad Severs. The Kickers prolific goal scorer, Matt Delicate sealed the game for the Kickers with his half-volley strike in the 87th minute.

Keystone Derby Preview

In 2010, the Riverhounds and City Islanders met four times with each contest ending in a 1-1 draw. The stalemate between the two Clubs should carry over into 2011 and make for an interesting clash in Harrisburg this weekend.

The battle for Pennsylvania bragging rights, coupled with an early National Division contest in the newly formed USL PRO, will create an intense atmosphere on Saturday night. The Riverhounds and City Islanders will square off twice in the next 8 days; first in Harrisburg and then again Easter weekend in Pittsburgh.

Riverhounds to Watch

Severs returns to his last Club's home field in Skyline Sports Complex. While in Harrisburg Severs played in 29 games and recorded 20 goals, making him the Isles' all-time leader in goals. Midfielder Sammy Appiah makes his first appearance in Riverhounds' colors this weekend. Appiah comes to Pittsburgh after one season with the Houston Dynamo of the MLS.

City Islanders to Watch

Outside midfielder Jason Hotchkins returns to Harrisburg for his second season. In 2010, Hotchkins led the Isles with 12 points, by recording 5 goals and two assists. Off-season acquisitions, Nelson Becerra and Jason Herrick should add pace and scoring instinct to the City Islanders front runners.
