
Hot Stove Dinner to Feature Indian Great Sam McDowell and Captains New Manager David Wallace

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, the class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will host its tenth annual Hot Stove Dinner on Tuesday, January 17 from 6 pm - 8 pm at Classic Park. Former Cleveland Indians great "Sudden" Sam McDowell will be the keynote speaker. The event will feature an opportunity for fans to meet McDowell as well as the Captains new manager David Wallace and several top prospects from the Cleveland Indians organization. There will be a silent auction benefitting Captains Charities and a buffet dinner as well.
McDowell was a six-time Major League All Star with the Indians, leading the league in strikeouts five times, including 1965 when he struck out 325 batters. Twice in his career he struck out over 300 batters in a season. In 1970, McDowell won 20 games and struck out a league-leading 304 batters while hurling 305 innings. Currently, he is the CEO and Chairman of the Board for the City of Legends complex in Clermont, FL.
Wallace was the Captains catcher in the inaugural 2003 season. He was selected to the South Atlantic League All Star team prior to his promotion to Kinston that season. Last season he began is managerial career at Mahoning Valley as well as being the Indians Minor League Catching Coordinator. He was an assistant to the Indians Major League Staff in 2009 and 2010.
The Hot Stove event coincides with the Indians Winter Development Program, which brings the Indians top prospects to Cleveland for off-season training in the Cleveland area. Fans at the Hot Stove dinner will have the opportunity to meet former Captains players and other top Cleveland Indians prospects, as well as members of the Indians Player Development Department. The players will sign autographs and be a part of an interactive question-and-answer session, along with McDowell and Wallace. Players who attended the event last year include former Captains player, and current Indians pitcher, Vinnie Pestano, as well as current Indians players Jason Kipnis, Lonnie Chisenhall, Cord Phelps and Ezequiel Carrera.
A silent auction of various Captains and Indians memorabilia will also be held during the evening, with 100% of the auction proceeds benefiting Captains Charities, an official 501(c)3 organization that serves as the charitable arm of the baseball club. Auction items include the game-worn jersey that Shin-Soo Choo wore during his rehabilitation stint with the Captains last season, the authentic home plate from Classic Park from the team's 2010 championship season, former Captains manager Ted Kubiak's 2011 All Star jersey and a signed base from the 2010 season plus many other unique one-of-a-kind items.
Fans will enter the event, which is held in the batting cage building at Classic Park, through the Captains home clubhouse, where they will be able to get a photo taken in front of a locker with the 2010 Championship Trophy.
The buffet dinner will include Chicken Parmesan, Penne Pasta w/ Sauce, Boneless Chicken Tenders (BBQ &Buffalo sauce), Macaroni and Cheese, Cheeseburgers, Onion Rings, Tossed Salad and desert. An assortment of non-alcoholic beverages is included as well. A limited selection of alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at a cash bar.
Tickets are only $35 for adults and $25 for kids, ages 4-12. Tickets are $5 more the day of the event but the Hot Stove dinner traditionally sells out well in advance and is limited to the first 200 reservations.
