Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Eastlake, OH - Trailing by four runs entering the ninth inning, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (32-29) rallied to take the lead and eventually defeated the Lake County Captains (20-39) in the tenth inning by a score of 7-6. Andrew Toles drove in the first of five runs scored in the ninth inning and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the tenth. RHP Eduar Quinonez earned the victory after a season-high five innings of relief pitching.
Lake County jumped out to an early lead in the third inning. Joe Sever started a four-run outburst with a bases-clearing double to right field and ended the scoring in the frame by coming in on a double by Anthony Santander. The Hot Rods and Captains traded runs in the fourth to set the score at 5-1 in favor of Lake County.
For the second straight contest, the Hot Rods put a rally to together at the end of regulation. Patrick Leonard led off the ninth inning with a single and scored after a stolen base and an RBI hit by Toles. Joey Rickard drove in Toles with a double and came in with Tyler Goeddel's single coupled with an error by RHP Felix Sterling.
With the Hot Rods down by a run and the inning still in progress, Tyler Goeddel was at second base with two outs and Luke Maile at the plate. Maile hit a slicing line drive to right field that Santander could not catch on a dive, resulting in a game-tying triple. Justin O'Conner followed with a go-ahead single that gave the Hot Rods a 6-5 advantage.
Quinonez kept the Captains scoreless for three innings of relief before trying to finish the game in the bottom of the ninth. After producing a fly out from Eric Haase, Quinonez gave up a home run to Jeremy Lucas that tied the game at 6-6 and forced extra innings.
Toles opened the tenth inning with a ground ball up the third base line that was ruled an infield hit and an error after Toles beat out a wild throw from RHP Louis Head that allowed Toles to advance to second base. Rickard's sacrifice bunt set the stage for a sacrifice fly to right field from Goeddel that Toles scored on for the winning run. Quinonez kept the Captains scoreless in the tenth to finalize the frenzied victory.
Bowling Green's three-game set at Lake County continues with a Sunday matinee at 12:30 PM CDT. Hot Rods RHP Taylor Guerrieri (3-2, 3.14) will pitch against Captains RHP Robbie Aviles (1-1, 3.18).
