Hot Rods Announce Opening Day Roster

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods and their parent club Tampa Bay Rays announced the Hot Rods Opening Day Roster today. Manager Craig Albernaz and his squad will play their first game of the 2018 season on Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark against Dayton, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.
The roster includes seven of the Rays' Top 30 Prospects, according to Baseball America.
Leading the way is former University of Louisville star LHP/1B Brendan McKay. The third overall selection in the 2017 draft, he is ranked as the third best prospect in the Rays' organization and will continue his progression as a two way player for the Hot Rods this season.
Other top prospects include RHP Austin Franklin (#10), C Ronaldo Hernandez (#12), RHP Tobias Myers (#15), RHP Drew Strotman (#19), INF Vidal Brujan (#20), and LHP Resly Linares (#24).
Returning to Bowling Green to start the season are RHP Orlando Romero, C Zac Law, INFs Jim Haley and Adrian Rondon, along with OFs Eleardo Cabrera and Emilio Gustave.
Including the two players who begin the season on the disabled list, the Hot Rods average age of the roster, as of Opening Day, is 21 years, 285 days. The team is made up of players from four different countries: USA, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and nine different states: Florida (5), Pennsylvania (3), California and Texas (2), Georgia, Louisiana, New York, Virginia, Washington (1).
The Hot Rods will host Media Day tomorrow, beginning at 3pm. GM/COO Eric C. Leach, Manager Craig Albernaz, and McKay will be available to the media beginning at 4pm. The Hot Rods will also announce the inaugural class of the Hot Rods Hall of Fame as well.
Media should note that this will be their one chance to speak with McKay, barring special circumstances. Due to his training schedule, he will not be made available for one-on-one interviews.
