Kentucky Horsemen News Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington's William Mulder was named the 2006 United Indoor Football Special Teams Player of the Year, the league office in Omaha, Neb., announced Tuesday.

Mulder, 5-foot-8, 185 lbs., leads the league in kick-return average, having returned 26 kicks for 691 yards (26.6) with a league-best three touchdowns. He also leads the UIF in interceptions with 12 pick-offs for 228 yards with two touchdowns. Mulder also returned seven missed field goals this season for 237 total yards with a score. His 33.9-yards returned average on missed field goals also led the league.

"This whole year William has been getting better and better," Horsemen head coach Mike Zuckerman said. "Every time he touches the ball, he is a danger. I think that shows the importance that we put on special teams. This is a great award for both William and the Horsemen. It has been a good team effort all year long and he has definitely done a great job on special teams."

Mulder and the Horsemen begin their quest for United Bowl II on Saturday when they play host to Rock River in the UIF Semifinals. Kick-off in Rupp Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be carried live on WLAP 630-AM with Gary Ball and Randy Wilson.
