Kentucky Horsemen News Release

The Horsemen have been assigned another former University of Kentucky player in wide receiver Quentin McCord. The former Wildcat, who has three years experience in the NFL and also played in Canada, is returning to play football in Lexington for the first time since finishing his college career in 2000.

McCord was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 7th round of the 2001 draft, where he played through 2003. In his three years with Atlanta, McCord had 23 receptions for 427 yards and a touchdown, and also saw some time as a kick and punt returner. After spending some time on the Oakland Raiders practice squad in 2004, McCord went on to sign with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, where he played in 2006 and 2007.

A native of LaGrange, Georgia, McCord is considered one of the earliest UK signees in the LaGrange pipeline, which has brought in players such as Wesley Woodyard, Braxton Kelley and DeMoreo Ford in recent years. As a Wildcat, McCord had 1,743 career receiving yards, ranking him 4th all-time among UK receivers.

The former UK standout is thrilled to make his return to Lexington.

"I'm excited to be playing football and being in the city where I had my college career, where the majority of my fans are," said McCord. "I'm just looking to have some fun and take advantage of it."

Kentucky has now brought in two players with NFL experience in the past year, the first being quarterback Jared Lorenzen. McCord and Lorenzen played together at UK in 2000, and will reunite for a Horsemen squad that ranks near the top of the AF2 in scoring offense and total offense.

McCord thinks he can bring something to the table with his experience in the NFL.

"I should be able to help with player preparation, outside of what the coaches are giving," said McCord. "Helping guys learn how to study film, along with being a leader on and off the field. From a technique standpoint, I think I can help a lot of guys."

The Horsemen return to action Saturday as they host the Quad City Steamwheelers in Rupp Arena. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST. For tickets, visit or call the Rupp Arena box office at (859) 233-3535.
