Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

Greensboro, N.C. - A West Virginia squad that entered the series on a four-game losing streak left Greensboro with a four-game win streak Sunday after taking the series finale, 7-5.

Bryan Petersen continued to swing a solid bat, collecting a double and a home run. He drove in three of Greensboro's five runs, but the rest of the team was unable to garner any timely hitting to plate any of the seven runners left on base.

For Greensboro, Peterson's blast extended a home run hitting steak to seven games.

With the game tied at four, Greensboro went to its bullpen looking to keep the Power in check. After not allowing an earned run in 32 consecutive innings entering the contest, the Hoppers pen surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits and Steven Cishek was credited with Greensboro's second blow save of the season and a loss.

For the fourth time in as many games, Greensboro brought the game-tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but failed once more as West Virginia's Mike Ramlow earned his fifth save of the season in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Along with Petersen's two hits, Tom Hickman and Jameson Smith also had multiple-hit performances.

The Hoppers return to action Monday as they travel to Kannapolis for a two-game series. This season, Greensboro is 2-2 against Kannapolis, 0-2 on the road.

RHP Brett Durand (5-2, 5.37) is scheduled to start for the Hoppers; the Intimidators are expected to counter with LHP Kevin Skogley (0-0, 8.76). First pitch from Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is at 7:05 p.m.
