Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - The holiday spirit comes to life Saturday, December 13, at Whataburger Field when the Hooks, with the help of Time Warner Cable and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, host their Open House, beginning at 4:00 p.m. A variety of activities and events are planned for the afternoon and evening, including a special presentation of the movie "Home Alone" at sundown.

Admission to the Open House is one canned food item, which benefits the Food Bank of Corpus Christi. Individuals and families may bring more than one item per person. The first 500 fans to enter Whataburger Field during the December 13 Open House get a free hot dog and soda.

Special appearances by Santa Claus and former Hooks star third baseman Mark Saccomanno highlight the event. Fans are invited to play catch on the Stripes Diamond, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the ballpark and participate in the "Wishes & Dreams" Toy Drive.

"We'll have just about everything here for the holidays, except the snow," exclaimed Hooks General Manager Michael Wood, "though I should watch out with the snow comment, given what happened here in 2004! But there's a great deal of fun planned for families that Saturday and we'd like to thank Time Warner and the Caller-Times for helping to make this event possible."

Fans will have the chance to get their pictures taken with Santa and Saccomanno. The Hooks' career leader in home runs, Saccomanno made history last September when he became the 20th player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit a home run on the first pitch thrown to him. Saccomanno's pinch-hit home run off Ian Snell on September 8 helped the Astros edge the Pirates 3-2.

The Hooks are involved again with the "Wishes & Dreams" Toy Drive, organized by the Corpus Christi Police Department. Fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the drive during the Open House will receive a free Hooks holiday ornament.

Santa plans to dispense holiday cheer at Hook, Line & Sinker, the club's retail outlet, located near the Right Field gates at Whataburger Field. Registration for Rusty's Kids Club, Sammy's Birthday Club and the Silver Sluggers will be available at Hook, Line & Sinker, where red and green merchandise is discounted 25% exclusively during Open House.
