Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Brian Bogusevic walked twice, singled, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs to pace Corpus Christi past Arkansas 11-1 Wednesday at Whataburger Field before 6,833.

The Hooks stand 15-29 in the second half of Texas League play. Arkansas is 16-29.

Bogusevic's two-run triple to center off Barret Browning gave Corpus Christi a 4-1 lead after seven. Browning walked Jonny Ash and Billy Hart, the two runners who scored on Bogusevic's third hit of the night.

The Hooks put the game out of reach with a seven-run eighth. Doug Brandt was pulled after six batters without recording an out. Drew Sutton's two-run double and a two-run homer by Mitch Einertson keyed the assault. Ole Sheldon and Ash contributed a double and triple, respectively. Each had an RBI; Sheldon had two hits in the inning.

Hart's infield single scored Wladimir Sutil for a 1-0 Corpus Christi lead in the third. Sutil led off with a single up the middle and Sutton followed with a sharp liner to left. Two outs later, Hart beat out a throw by Nate Sutton from deep second as Sutil moved across the plate.

Corey Smith immediately responded by smacking his 20th home run of the season and fourth in three games to knot the score.

The Hooks regained the lead two innings later. Bogusevic was erased at home on a contact play by shortstop Wil Ortiz after doubling, but Sheldon raced home from second on Lou Santangelo's two-bagger over the head of center fielder Adam Greenberg.

The game was a pitcher's duel for six innings. Corpus Christi starter Polin Trinidad (5-5) lasted seven. He scattered four hits, issued two walks and fanned seven.

Robert Mosebach fell to 9-10. He left after six frames, six hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

The Hooks' Chance Douglass (4-8) meets Dan Denham (9-9) Thursday at 7:05.
