Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers losing skid continues at three games as they lost to the Duluth Huskies 3-2 on Wednesday night. The loss comes at the beginning of a four-game road trip for Rochester.

Honkers starter DJ Snelten (Minnesota) lasted just 4.0 innings after giving up three (two earned) Duluth runs on two walks and three hits. Snelten picked up the loss to run his record to 0-1. For Snelten the defeat was his first of the year.

Reid Roper (Illinois) was effective in 3.0 innings of relief of Snelten surrendering zero runs and just one hit.

Huskies starting pitcher Evan Geist (Florida State) pitched 6.0 innings of one-run baseball scattering three of the Honkers' five hits while striking out seven. Geist is now 1-1 on the year.

The Honkers committed five errors for the second game in a row making life hard for their starting pitcher, and a lack of offense only added to the problem.

Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) had the only successful night at the plate for the Honkers finishing 2 for 2 before leaving the game with an injury.

Honkers radio broadcaster Mike Broskowski says that Podratz "walked off the field gingerly, maybe his ankle or his foot."

For Podratz, his average climbs to .435, the highest on the Honkers roster.

The other three hits came off the bats of Dakota Smith (Kansas), Adam Giacalone (Neosho County CC), and Jared Allen (Tennessee).

The Honkers and Huskies will be back in Duluth for game two of the series on Thursday June 7th at Wade Stadium. Opening pitch is set for 7:05 PM. The Honkers will send Matt Kent (0-0, Texas A&M) to the hill and he will oppose Huskies starter Josh Mooney (Dixie State, 1-0). In Kent's last start on June 1st against Thunder Bay, the young lefty was magnificent in 8.0 innings of work allowing just one earned run and striking out nine Border Cats.
