
Honkers Fall in Thirteen Innings

Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - In a game that they at one point had a six run lead, the Rochester Honkers saw themselves losing in thirteen innings by a score of 9-8 to the Alexandria Beetles. The Honkers were up 8-2 after six innings, and lost a three run lead in the ninth inning before losing in the thirteenth.
D.J. Snelten (Fr, Minnesota) made his sixth start of the season for the Honkers, coming off his first win of the season last week at St. Cloud. Snelten pitched 6.2 innings allowing four runs on nine hits. Snelten would leave with the lead, but see it diminish and get a no-decision in the game.
Reid Roper (Fr, Illinois) would get the start at shortstop for the Honkers, but would get called in to pitch the 10, 11 and 12th innings. Roper would pitch very well for the Honkers, allowing one hit and striking out five batters. Roper would also go 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Anthony Hutting (So, Cal State Fullerton) would be the losing pitcher after throwing one inning, allowing one hit and an unearned run.
Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) would continue to slug the ball for the Honkers, hitting his eleventh homerun and picking up three RBI in the game. Johnny was also 3-for-7 on the day. Eric Birch (Jr, U of Mary) was 3-for-6 on the day with an RBI and Tony Kemp (Fr, Vanderbilt) went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. Devin Thaut (Jr, Southern Polytechnic State) also had three hits, with an RBI and two runs scored. The Honkers as a team had sixteen hits in thirteen innings at-bat.
The Honkers will have an off-day tomorrow before traveling to Brainerd for three games in two days. They will be back at Mayo Field on Wednesday, August 10 for the final home series of the season. They will take on the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers for three games before traveling to Duluth to finish out the season.
