Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers travelled to Alexandria today after a successful six-game home stand in which they won five games. The Honkers would lose 8-4, dropping their second game in a row and falling to 6-3 in the second half, still holding on to the top spot in the North Division.
The Honkers would get a quick start to the game, scoring right away in the first inning following a lead off triple by Tony Kemp (Fr, Vanderbilt). The Honkers would be led offensively by the aforementioned Kemp and Anthony Hutting (So, Cal State Fullerton) who went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI.
Aaron Siefken (Jr, Bethany Lutheran) would get the start on the mound for the Honkers, making his second start in Alexandria this season and seventh overall. Siefken went 5.2 innings allowing five runs on six hits before yielding to the bullpen. Siefken left the game with the loss, as the score was 5-1 when he left.
The Honkers would get an offensive rally in their half of the sixth, to pull within two runs, but the Honkers bullpen would let up three more runs in the Beetles half to stretch the gap to 8-3. The Honkers would get one run in the ninth inning off a home run by Bryan Karraker (Jr, New Mexico State) but that would be it, with the Honkers falling 8-4.
The Honkers and Beetles will finish up their two game series tomorrow, before heading into the three day long All-Star Break. The Honkers will have just one representative in the game, pitcher Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska). The Honkers will then travel to Thunder Bay for two games against the Border Cats before returning home on Friday July 22 at 7:05 pm, to play the Border Cats in three more games at Mayo Field.
