
Honkers Complete Third Consecutive Series Sweep

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers completed a third consecutive series sweep with a 10-1 win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Wednesday, June 19 at Subway Field in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Jeff Campbell (North Dakota) drew a lead-off walk in the top of the second inning and Tucker Tharp (Kansas) was hit by a pitch to start a rally for the Honkers. Kevin Barker (UC Davis) singled and Campbell scored on an error by the left fielder. Jarad Watts (Bethel) picked up a RBI as he grounded out and Kalei Hanawahine (Hawaii) delivered a two-out single to score the third run of the inning to give the Honkers an early 3-0 lead.
Tyler Baker (Wichita State) started the third inning by reaching on a walk, Tharp advanced him on a single; Baker would score on a RBI single from Jared Deacon (Cal State Fullerton) while Tharp scored his second run on the night on a single from Barker to give Rochester a 5-0 lead. The Honkers offense did not let up, as Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) led the top of the fourth inning off with a single. He stole second base and came around to score on a single by Alex Greer (Iowa Western.) Greer and Campbell each scored on a two-run single from Deacon to give Rochester a commanding 8-0 lead after three and a half innings. Deacon went 2-for-4 with three RBI in his first game with the Honkers.
Matt Kent (Texas A&M) complimented the Honkers offense with a second consecutive strong pitching performance. He earned the win (2-0) as he allowed five hits in his six shutout innings, while collecting four strikeouts. Matt Blackham (0-2) took the loss for the Border Cats. He allowed five runs on four hits in 2.2 innings.
Rochester added a pair of runs on a two-run double from Hanawahine in the top of the eighth to extend its lead to 10-0. Thunder Bay got on the board in its half of the eighth inning with a run off of Seth Fuller (Black Hawk College.) Fuller allowed three hits in his two innings of work, while Campbell struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.
Hanawahine picked up three RBI on the night, while Greer and Burgess each finished the game going 3-for-6. Tharp scored three times in the game, while Barker and Campbell each came around to score twice.
Rochester (13-9) will look to extend its six-game winning streak in a two-game series with the Alexandria Blue Anchors, before returning home to Mayo Field on Saturday June 22 to host the Duluth Huskies. Nick Dolsky (Oklahoma State) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Honkers in Alexandria on Thursday June 20, at 7:05 p.m.
